Functional Fabric

The modern kitchen has become an iconic symbol of fashionable style.   It is therefore appropriate that kitchen designers should now keep their eye firmly fixed on the latest textiles and fabrics to grace the runways of Europe especially now that fabric doors can be specified in their next kitchen design! The Meccanica Kitchen by Valcucine evaporates the traditional rigidity of kitchen installation by using an innovative frame work system that can be transported easily, can be assembled by the end user and is 100% recyclable.   It even comes with an end of life cycle “take back guarantee” whereby your old kitchen will be collected, sand blasted and re-coated so that it can re-enter the production cycle!   Oh yea and did The Mogul mention that the doors are fabric!! The Mogul knows that this is going to be a huge hit with the more Eco conscious inhabitants of the planet as the concept dramatically reduces the  carbon footprint of a kitchen. ...

M&M's Kitchen

Confidence can be displayed in many ways and here we see a kitchen demand attention by nonchalantly commanding the space around it!! It is as though this kitchen has marched into the room, slammed the door and demanded that all the blue M&M’s be removed from the bowl! This kitchen is a transformer; a shape shifting reflection of functional art where form disguises function and the manipulation of shape, colour and texture is used to define a way of life!!  You don’t own a kitchen like this unless you have some serious style confidence. The defining feature is the launch pad table complete with solid rocket boosters hovering overhead!  This is a bold cross over statement and showcases how the modern kitchen can be everything to everyone, not only delivering on its primary functional requirement but also providing the modern family with a place to live, work and play! Kitchen design has exploded out of its architectural incarceration and become a ser...

Kitchen Architecture

Humans like to architecturally compartmentalize, to create intimate spaces for introverted reflection and congregational hot spots for sharing conversation and enjoying each other’s company.   It could be argued that these spaces are socially required to break down the inevitable tensions caused by cohabitation and to provide separation between areas of the home used for different functions at different times of the day. Here we see how the kitchen can dominate an open plan setting and create subtle divisions which help to define unique areas within a space which is devoid of walls.   The colours and unity between kitchen, furniture and space add continuity to the overall design and showcase how the kitchen has become one of the most defining elements within any residential property.

Quiet Functional Order

A breathtaking fusion of kitchen and architecture which delivers a crescendo of visual stimulation whilst achieving quiet functional order!

Spot the kitchen!

Expressively flamboyant architecture, shy and oppressed kitchen!     Missed opportunity!

Design Cartilage

This kitchen is like a functional thread, using its smooth curvature to stitch together polarised architectural styles.   The kitchen is being used like sophisticated design cartilage, preventing friction and using its irregular and undulating shape to soften the sharp distinction between architectural styles.       This approach works well using contemporary cabinetry as the minimal nature of the design allows the period features to shine though without fear of being up-staged.   Likewise the understated detailing flows seamlessly into any minimally styled room. Great job!!

Hierarchy of Influence

The kitchen pales into insignificance awaiting functional resuscitation within a sanitised architectural space. We see the kitchens functionality diluted and absorbed into the architecture with only the island presenting influence upon the space. Both kitchen and architecture are submitting to the imposing influence of nature.   Possibly a little human animation required here?!

Approachable Kitchen

It is interesting to see how this contemporary design has been softened by introducing more approachable geometry.   The underside of the impressive cooking zone displays the aerodynamic qualities of an aircraft wing and could even be likened to the hull of a sea fairing vessel which uses smooth and gradual geometry to cut though the ocean more efficiently. But having the hard edges removed may not only have aesthetical advantages, as cantilevers and breakfast bar areas are notorious hazards for small children who can be unfortunate enough to occasionally pay a painful price for their parents   pleasure of owning a designer kitchen. The breakfast bar of this design also appears to be counter balanced across the lover storage area so it may have been possible to create a fantastic free floating cantilever that could swivel between states of use, rotating 90degrees and resting upon the lower storage area when in a standby position and leaving the living area free from phy...

That's a Wrap!

The Mogul loves the integration here!   The Architecture is just hugging this kitchen which is incredibly stylish in its own right. The units above the cooking and cleaning area just hang in space and this feature illustrates that there are real kitchen pod tendencies here.   The tall unit integration with the architectural wrap really works well because of the detachment from the exterior architecture of the building. The Mogul Approves!
