Black is Back

This island presents itself as a cool, dark monolithic block with some hidden features.  The cooking area of the island slides back to create a cantilevered informal seating area, this function also allows the user to easily access the storage drawers beneath.
The Mogul particularly likes the simple but incredibly effective wine storage area on the front of the island.  The use of lighting shelves in this area breaks up the rigidity of the island design and introduces an interactive feature that will change over time.  The introduction of new or differently coloured bottles will change the appearance of the island and the texture of the lighting.  This idea softens the design and allows for an expression of self.  The use of light in this way can have a calming effect on the viewer.
The minimal, shape shifting bank of units behind the island is a fitting extension to this idea.

Functional Thinking

Purity is a desirable attribute especially if used to disguise complexity!  This design manages to encourage a lingering desire to admire, the type of art gallery presence that demands quiet contemplation to fully appreciate.  By cleverly layering simple linear forms and combining a reserved colour palette this under stated design could be considered a masterpiece of functional thinking! Think about it!

Functional Revolution Through Artistic Evolution

Amongst the chaos there is order! And here we see a vibrant mix of functional art that inspires the onlooker to delve deeper into this design and realise the complex levels of thought that have inspired such a flagrant disregard for convention. Excitement can be conjured by the exotic, and this design by Gitta Gschwendtner for Schiffini floats the notion that functionality can become an artistic experiment.   To some this may just be a series of boxes but to others this could be seen as an attempt to deliver a functional revolution through artistic evolution. The Mogul approves!

Celestial Island Cluster

Managing to understand and control proportion whilst delivering exemplary functional performance and unrivalled aesthetic impact is a skill which kitchen designers continually hone. Sitting majestically in the centre of the room this island cluster presents itself like an elevated alter of style complete with a ceiling drop that can deliver celestial messages direct to the Gods of design! Soft approachable geometry and the precise sightline and functional arrangement ensure that the impressive architectural scaling must cower down in the presence of this functional master piece. An island is one thing, but if you have enough space why don’t you let your imagination explore the endless possibilities of multi-island arrangements. The Mogul Approves!
