Functional Revolution Through Artistic Evolution

Amongst the chaos there is order! And here we see a vibrant mix of functional art that inspires the onlooker to delve deeper into this design and realise the complex levels of thought that have inspired such a flagrant disregard for convention. Excitement can be conjured by the exotic, and this design by Gitta Gschwendtner for Schiffini floats the notion that functionality can become an artistic experiment.   To some this may just be a series of boxes but to others this could be seen as an attempt to deliver a functional revolution through artistic evolution. The Mogul approves!

Functional Fabric

The modern kitchen has become an iconic symbol of fashionable style.   It is therefore appropriate that kitchen designers should now keep their eye firmly fixed on the latest textiles and fabrics to grace the runways of Europe especially now that fabric doors can be specified in their next kitchen design! The Meccanica Kitchen by Valcucine evaporates the traditional rigidity of kitchen installation by using an innovative frame work system that can be transported easily, can be assembled by the end user and is 100% recyclable.   It even comes with an end of life cycle “take back guarantee” whereby your old kitchen will be collected, sand blasted and re-coated so that it can re-enter the production cycle!   Oh yea and did The Mogul mention that the doors are fabric!! The Mogul knows that this is going to be a huge hit with the more Eco conscious inhabitants of the planet as the concept dramatically reduces the  carbon footprint of a kitchen.   But for those whose carbon footpr

A physical translation of rhythm!

This design is bold and it is brilliant.   Exploring alternating depth and the physical translation of rhythm this design re-writes the rules of contemporary kitchen design. The calculated 3D profiling exposes the beauty of precision cut stone, a beauty that has been hidden for too long within benign contemporary kitchen design!   The deliberate punctuation used along the length of this monolithic structure also presents an interesting canvas onto which natural light and shadow can dance a seasonal influence! The Mogul approves!

Unplugged!

This kitchen is unplugged from the fast paced human existence that has blurred our judgement and systematically detached us from detail.   This design has opted out, rejected the rat race and embraced the idea that simplicity can deliver exceptional results. Light is allowed to penetrate the design, showcasing the warmth of the natural ash framework and enabling the angular cabinetry to display an effortless beauty. The simplicity of the design appears to invite the chaos of function, presenting itself for personalisation in a way that requires indulgence. The Mogul loves this fresh and enlightened approach!

Transforming Furniture Absorbing Kitchens!

The Mogul has long argued that the modern kitchen can now be defined by its island, with the taller more cumbersome elements being absorbed by the surrounding architecture or being cloaked behind transforming cabinetry.   The kitchen is in-fact an island with some modified architectural cabinetry in support. So it is interesting to see how this design and an increasing number of others are detaching the island from the floor, creating a floating centrepiece which is only tethered to the architecture by the services required for function. This design accepts that there must be unity between kitchen and architecture but it also expresses an understanding that there must be a connection with the other pieces of furniture sharing an open plan space.   The T-shaped island unit is like a functional docking station, able and willing to accept elements that can temporarily enhance the functional experience without permanently polluting the aesthetic influence of the kitchen.     We

The Diamond Effect

Diamonds sparkle, they have a strange effect on people.   They have the ability to reflect light in a hypnotic way making us fall in love and part with large amounts of our hard earned cash.   The investment in a diamond is never questioned and is seen as a public expression of our love for another human being and as an expression of our position in society.   Buying a kitchen is the same. This kitchen design by New Zealand designer Mal Corboy is beautiful; it captures the power of light and uses the reflective qualities of glass and stainless steel to create a powerful visual experience for the viewer. The design exudes a quality and richness that makes you fall in love.   And you should love your kitchen, as it will accompany you though life’s ups and downs, presenting itself as a familiar backdrop to your home live and as outward expression of who you actually are. Buying a kitchen without integrated ambient lighting is like buying a car without a painted finish.      You just don’
