Kitchen Masquerade

White kitchens are still popular because they are timeless, can be easily absorbed into architecture, they react well to light and can emphasise the purity of contemporary design; they also provide an opportunity for a big personal reveal.   By pealing back the layers of this transforming design you can see that the beauty and warmth of wood is revealed.   The expressionless exterior is just a masquerade, fooling the viewer into thinking that this kitchen has no soul!   Only a very subtle backing panel with integrating lighting provides an insight into the depth of this design, providing just enough personalised contrast for the asymmetrical wall cabinetry to shine! Love it!

Crumpled

You could be mistaken into believing that the photographer has got it wrong here; he had been sent to photograph a kitchen!   Instead he has captured a slumbering example of function, a kitchen that is waiting to be wakened through the introduction of human animation.   The use of open shelves on the island and the back wall section is excessive, but this is still a very practical design with the crumpled metal panel acting as the transformer, the curtain raiser for the functional core of this design.   The staggered and layered approach to the island offers aesthetical interest to the viewer while providing a practical opportunity to get social while preparing and enjoying a meal.   The material choices of stainless steel and walnut always offer a luxurious visual contrast that works every-time and this design is certainly no exception. Great Job!

Animated Design

If space is tight you might want to consider something like this as the “hub of your home”.   This futuristic kitchen transformer offers function, sociability and style in equal measure.   The texture and colours of this progressive concept give it a soft appearance, almost foam like!   Very child friendly! This is yet another example of how the kitchen has become detached and removed from the surrounding architecture.   The kitchen can now be defined as an island.   Traditionally the kitchen was imprisoned in the corner of a room, but now, with the help of forward thinking members of the design community clients are learning to celebrate the beauty of this important functional furniture!   The modern kitchen is now placed centre stage in our domestic drama!   Having the main player transform at the whim of its user only adds to the experience, offering animation and giving the design the required wow factor! The Mogul Approves!

Raise me up!

Good kitchen designers explore every possible avenue to ensure that the products they develop indulge the lifestyle and physical requirements of the user.    Every whim is now catered for with electrical opening support mechanisms being included as a standard feature in modern kitchens for horizontally moving elements like drawers. Automation is now more common in the vertical plane and this design by Team 7 was one of the pioneers of this idea.   Human beings interact with their environment based on their sensory capabilities and the spatial grammar of the kitchen and the architecture that surrounds it.   In other words, if you are tall you will see and use the environment in a different way than those people who live their life closer to the ground.   From a very practical point of view; if you like to bake and the worktop is too high you will not be able to get a proper purchase on the rolling pin when making pastry...very frustrating!   Having the ability to automatically adjus
